The Arroyo Grande Village Township was established in 1862 and later incorporated on July 10, 1911. Last year, the City of Arroyo Grande celebrated their Centennial. Yet another festival is the Arroyo Grande Strawberry Festival, which is held annually during Memorial Day weekend. The Strawberry Festival is one of California’s largest festivals, with over 40,000 people attending. At this family-style event, there are booths of arts, crafts, displays, not to mention scrumptious strawberry treats of all kinds. There is a Strawberry Prince and Princess Contest, Strawberry Blonde Contest, Strawberry Cook-Off Contest, and even a kiddie carnival. In conjunction with the Strawberry Festival is the Strawberry Stampede, which is a 5k, 10K run.
One of the largest car shows on the Central Coast is hosted in the Village of Arroyo Grande on the last Saturday in July. The Arroyo Grande Valley Car Show draws enthusiasts from around the state, at which hundreds of cars ranging from hot rods, muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even vintage trailers are on display.
Beyond the large community events are simply wonderful Sunday afternoon concerts held at the Heritage Square Park and Rotary Bandstand during the summer months and the Farmers Market every Saturday afternoon year round.
As you can see, the City of Arroyo Grande may be a small town but has big opportunities for community involvement.
